Our Policies
Swimmer Honor Code (Code of Conduct)
The following code is in effect throughout the year. Some of the items refer specifically to team travel.
Additionally, anyone who, in the opinion of the coach or coaches, acts in a manner that would interfere with the travel objectives listed below, will be subject to immediate return home (at the expense of the parent and/or swimmer) and other punishments including barring from future travel meets or other competition or dismissal from the team.
The Seals will seek out of town swimming competition for the following reasons:
- different individual competitions;
- a higher quality of competition;
- experience in trial/finals competition;
- conditions conducive to exceptional performances.
- The Seals may travel as a team to these meets and everyone is expected to behave in an exemplary manner. The
reputation of the Seals, as well as the other athletes with you, is Dependant on your behavior.
- The coaching staff holds the final word on any rules, regulations, or disciplinary action.
- The consumption or purchase of alcohol, smoking or chewing tobacco, or use of any other illegal drug or substance of any kind will not be allowed. In addition, any team member found or suspected to be in the presence of others (regardless of team affiliation) partaking in any of the above activities will be subject to the same punishments and probable expulsion from the Seals. Any swimmer suspected of such activity will appear before a review committee
composed of the senior team coach, the head age group coach, the club president, and two other the Seals board
members.
- At no times will male and female athletes be in the same room together with the door closed. This applies to Seals members or members of any other team.
- No team meetings may be missed. Be punctual to all meetings and warm-up times.
- No team member may be out of their room after the assigned bed time. Permission must be obtained from the coach to leave the room past this time.
- Any damages or thievery incurred at a motel will be at the expense of the swimmers assigned to that room, and further disciplinary action will be taken. No loud or boisterous behavior will be tolerated in the hallways or public areas, and such behavior should be kept to a minimum in your rooms. Make all long distance calls on a credit card
or collect.
- All team members will be polite in restaurants. Leave a 15% tip. If there has been a problem with the service, see the coach.
- Agree to follow the rules about practice and meet behavior in the team handbook.
I recognize my responsibility to abide by the rules and requirements of the Westbrook Seals I am
representing. Your signature on the Seals Registration Form serves as acknowledgment and acceptance of this Honor Code.
As parents or guardians, our major responsibility is to provide a stable, nurturing, and supportive environment for our children as they pursue the sport of swimming. A positive environment will enable our athletes to mature, try new challenges, and accept their successes as well as their failures with integrity. By conducting ourselves as role models for all athletes and young people, we demonstrate acceptable conduct and good sportsmanship. Children adopt attitudes and behavior from the adults around them; all the more reason to strive to set strong and positive examples. Parents should ensure their child’s attendance at practices and swim meets. Show your children your commitment to their interests by assisting the Team behind the scenes.
Most importantly, exhibit good sportsmanship at all times toward coaches, officials, opponents and teammates.
Coaching staffs are present to assess the swimmer’s performance and technique. Parents should support this at all times and initiate any discussions regarding their swimmer in a suitable time and manner.
I agree to abide by the following code of conduct as set forth by the Seals Swimming Board of Directors, coaches, and parents. I understand that I am allowed one written warning via the BOD. Should I err twice, I realize that my child and I will be put on a one-week probation. Three incidents may result in being asked to leave the team.
- I agree to remain physically off the deck at all times unless requested there by a coach.
- I will not make negative and / or disparaging comments to any swimmers, parents, officials, or coaches of any team.
- I will encourage my child to have a positive swimmer / coach relationship.
- I will be supportive of swimmers of all abilities and encourage camaraderie and mutual respect among swimmers, parents, and coaches.
- I will not express anger or voice concerns I may have while on the deck, during a practice, or meet.
- I will not interfere with my child’s coach regarding the way he or she carries out race strategy, conducts practices, or coaches at meets.
- I will notify my child’s coach of any change in my child's monthly swim schedule through verbal and / or written communication
- I will pay on a timely basis each month.
- I will volunteer time to the Seals organization in some way.
